Working with multiple monitors

If the remote computer has several monitors, switch between them with the screen buttons on the session toolbar and preview each one first.

If the computer you connect to has more than one monitor, Polpo Desk shows one monitor at a time. You choose which monitor to see with the screen buttons on the session toolbar.

Screen buttons

When the remote computer has two or more monitors, numbered monitor buttons (1, 2, 3…) appear on the session toolbar, to the left of the Fullscreen button. On single-monitor computers these buttons aren't shown.

  • The button of the monitor you're currently viewing is highlighted.
  • Hovering over the highlighted button shows the monitor's name; if it is set as the main display in Windows, (primary) is added after it.

Switch monitors

  1. Click the number of the monitor you want to see on the session toolbar.
  2. The picture switches to that monitor and its button is highlighted.
  3. Your mouse and keyboard now work on that monitor.

Preview before switching

If you're not sure which number is which screen, look at the preview first:

  1. Hover over a button that isn't highlighted and wait a moment.
  2. A small snapshot of that monitor opens below the button, with its number (e.g. Screen 2) in the caption.
  3. While the image is being prepared, Loading… is shown. If the image can't be captured, Preview unavailable appears.

Previews only work in Remote Control and View Only sessions; no screen images are captured in File Transfer sessions. A monitor's preview is reused for a few seconds, so moving between buttons doesn't put extra load on the remote computer.

Monitors with different resolutions

If the remote monitors have different resolutions (e.g. a laptop screen and a large external monitor), use the Fit to window view from the View and quality menu on the session toolbar. In this view the picture fits your window whichever monitor you switch to. See Session settings for details.

If you have several monitors yourself, move the session window to your largest monitor and click Fullscreen to see the remote screen at full size.

When several operators are connected

When more than one operator is connected to the same computer, the remote computer sends a single picture. That's why the monitor selection is shared: when one operator switches to another monitor, the picture the other operators see changes too, and the highlighted monitor button is updated in every operator's toolbar, so everyone can see which monitor is being shown. It's a good idea to let the others know in chat before you switch. See Multiple operators in one session.

Privacy screen and monitors

When the privacy screen is on, all monitors of the remote computer go dark. You keep seeing the real picture of whichever monitor you select.

In the mobile console

When you connect from your phone, the Screen button in the session menu switches to the next monitor; the button shows which monitor you're on, for example 1/2.
