Updating the operator app
The Windows and macOS operator apps find new versions by themselves; update with one click from the update card. The web console is always up to date.
Last updated:
How updates work depends on how you use the operator console. In short: the web console is always up to date, while the Windows and macOS apps find new versions themselves and update with one click.
Web console
The web console is loaded from the server every time it opens; you don't need to update it. If the console has been open for a long time, reloading the page is enough to load the latest version.
Windows app
When does it check?
The Windows app checks our server for a new version every time it starts. If there is a new version, a card appears in the bottom-right corner of the window: Version … is available.
Update steps
- Press the Update button on the card.
- The card first shows Downloading…, then Installing, restarting….
- In the Windows User Account Control window, choose Yes (administrator permission is required).
- The console closes, the new version is put in place and the app reopens.
If you don't want to update right away when the card appears, press Later. The card appears again the next time you open the app.
Updating with a newly downloaded version
If you download a new PolpoDesk-Operator.exe from the panel's Access section and open it while the console is already installed on the computer, this bar appears: The console is already installed on this computer. You can update the installation with this downloaded version. Press Update installation and grant administrator permission; the installed copy is replaced with this version.
macOS app
When does it check?
The macOS app checks for a new version at launch and every 6 hours while it stays open. If there is a new version, the same card appears in the bottom-right corner.
Update steps
- Press Update on the card.
- The new version is downloaded and verified: the package signature, Apple notarization and version number are checked. If any of these checks fail, the update is not installed.
- If the app's location is writable, the app replaces itself with the new version and reopens.
If the folder containing the app isn't writable, the new version's .dmg file opens in Finder and the card says New version opened — drag it to Applications. In that case:
- Quit Polpo Desk Operatör.
- In the window that opens, drag the app to the Applications folder and confirm replacing the old version.
- Open the app again.
If the update fails
If the card shows Update failed, read the explanation below it and press Retry. Common causes:
- The internet connection dropped, or a firewall is blocking the download from polpodesk.com.
- On Windows, No was chosen in the UAC window; try again and choose Yes.
If the problem persists, you can download and install the latest version from the panel's Access section, or open a support request.
