Uninstalling the Windows client

Remove the Polpo Desk client from the client settings or the Windows Apps list, or clean up a client you ran without installing.

How you remove the Polpo Desk client depends on how you use it: is it installed as a service, or does it run without installation from the downloaded file?

The steps in this article are the same for Polpo Desk and Polpo Desk Client.

To tell which: if there is a Polpo Desk shortcut on the desktop and the app appears in the Windows Apps list, it is installed.

Removing a client installed as a service

Method 1: From the client settings

  1. Open the Polpo Desk client.
  2. Press the settings (gear) button at the top right.
  3. On the General tab, find the Remove from this computer row and press Remove.
  4. In the Windows User Account Control window, choose Yes.
  5. Answer Yes when asked whether Polpo Desk should be removed from this computer.
  6. When it's done, a message confirms that Polpo Desk has been removed.

In Polpo Desk, this row is under Settings in the left menu: press Remove from this computer. The remaining steps are the same.

If you cancel in the UAC window or at the confirmation question, nothing is deleted and the app stays open.

Method 2: From Windows Settings

  1. In Windows, open Settings → Apps → Installed apps (on Windows 10: Settings → Apps → Apps & features).
  2. Find Polpo Desk in the list (publisher: İNFORMAC TEKNOLOJİ SANAYİ VE TİCARET LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ).
  3. Choose Uninstall, then grant administrator permission and confirm the removal.
Polpo Desk and Polpo Desk Client both appear in the list as Polpo Desk, and only one of them is installed at a time. Polpo Desk Operatör is a separate app installed in its own folder; removing one doesn't affect the other. For the operator app, see Uninstalling the operator app.

What is removed?

Uninstalling cleans up the following on this computer:

  • The Polpo Desk Service Windows service and all running Polpo Desk processes
  • Desktop and Start menu shortcuts
  • The sign-in auto start (Start with Windows) entry
  • This user's client settings
  • The entry in the Windows Apps list
  • Local app data (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Polpo Desk)
  • The program folder (C:\Program Files\Polpo Desk)

After uninstalling, this computer can no longer be reached with Polpo Desk. Uninstalling does not delete your Polpo Desk account or the records in the panel.

Removing a client used without installation

If you only ran the client from the downloaded PolpoDesk.exe / PolpoDeskClient.exe file, there is no installation to remove. To clean up:

  1. If you turned on Start with Windows, turn it off first: in the client, settings (gear) → General → Start with Windows.
  2. Right-click the Polpo Desk icon in the system tray and choose Exit.
  3. Delete the PolpoDesk.exe / PolpoDeskClient.exe file (usually in your Downloads folder).
  4. Optionally, also delete the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Polpo Desk folder; it only holds the app's local data.

To use Polpo Desk again later, get the latest version from the Download page and follow the steps in Installing the Windows client.
